You will need to provide administrator permission to rename this drive

I recently upgraded to Windows 11 Pro from Windows 11. While changing the USB drive name it is giving following error.

You will need to provide administrator permission to rename this drive

You will need to provide administrator permission to rename this drive
You will need to provide administrator permission to rename this drive

It does rename the drive when you click on Continue.

If you Google search for “You will need to provide administrator permission to rename this drive” you will come cross various solution which says to login as Administrator or use an account which has Administrator rights to get rid of this error. This is fucking bullshit. I’ve only one account which is administrative account.

There was no issue in renaming UB drive in Windows 11 so upgrading to Windows 11 Pro has certainly either added something new or fucked it up totally.

Solution

I’m yet to find a solution for this, I’ll update this section once I come across a solution. Looks like I’ve to contact Microsoft Support!!!

Solution 1 – Run explorer as Administrator

the first suggestion is to run explorer as administrator. I tried that but it didnt’ work for me. Still getting the same error.
